(Des Moines, Iowa) – The Dream Team has received a grant from Variety - the Children’s Charity to fund its annual youth mentoring program that leads up to and includes completing the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI).
The Dream Team is a nonprofit organization serving Des Moines and Central Iowa that uses the power of a bicycle to assist youth in developing a positive approach to life’s challenges.
The Variety grant will be used to support youth participants in the program. This includes the purchase of nutritional snacks and meals for longer rides and overnight campouts, important bicycle maintenance tools and supplies, and appropriate clothing for cycling in all types of weather.
“We are grateful to Variety - the Children’s Charity for their commitment to supporting the Dream Team,” says Dream Team Executive Director Brian O’Leary. “These funds will allow us to serve additional youth through our program and grow our footprint in Central Iowa.”
The Dream Team program kicks off in March with indoor training at the Des Moines Wellmark YMCA and continues through the week of RAGBRAI in July. Youth riders interested in participating in the program as well as those interested in volunteering as adult mentors can visit dreamteamdesmoines.org.
