Dream Team Des Moines, a 28-yeear-old non-profit organization dedicated to mentoring central Iowa teens, has appointed Scott Matter as Executive Director.
Matter brings four years of experience as a mentor and a member of the all-volunteer organization’s leadership team. Previously, Matter served as founder and CEO of Bryant Park Strategies, a strategic communications firm based in New York City.
“We are thrilled with how the last season went and look forward to the upcoming season under Scott’s leadership,” said Dream Team Board President Julie Fugenschuh. “The leadership and commitment to the organization and the youth is amazing.”
“Life is about making a difference in the lives of other people,” said Matter. “And I’m excited that I will have an opportunity to continue doing just that with our outstanding team of volunteer mentors. Together, we will make a positive, life-changing impact in the lives of each of our amazing youth.”
Now starting its 28th year, Dream Team annually provides a group of approximately 50 young adults with opportunities to build confidence, set goals, and create a healthy lifestyle through mentor-based interactions centered around bicycling.
The Dream Team’s five-month program partners youth with adult mentors. The program culminates each year with RAGBRAI, a week-long bicycle ride across Iowa and the emotional experience of riding from the Missouri to the Mississippi River. The young adults in the program build confidence and self-esteem while learning that healthy goals can be attained with sufficient planning and preparation.
