Dream Team 2015 Fund Raising Campaign is on a ROLL!

Birdies for Charity! Birdies.Revised.LogoThe Principal Charity Classic

Again in 2016 the Dream Team program has partnered with The Principal Charity Classic and the Birdies for Charity program.

The Principal Charity Classic is an annual Champions Tour event at Wakonda Club in Des Moines. It is a wonderful community event in the metro area and contributes greatly to the economic vitality and quality of life in central Iowa. In the past eight years, The Principal Charity Classic has distributed $6 million to local non-profit organizations supporting children.

Community spirit is the driving force on the links at The Principal Charity Classic, and Central Iowans have a great opportunity to benefit area children’s programs by raising additional funds through Birdies for Charity. In 2015, Dream Team is a qualified participating organization and will receive 100% of EVERY DONATION collected on our behalf and have the potential of extra money through the “Bonus Bucks” program which is sponsored by Sammons Financial Group. Donate now, or learn more.

With the Bonus Bucks program, every donation made by you to Dream Team will be matched with an additional 10% by Sammons Financial. We appreciate your support!

Dream Team Volunteers Reveal the RAGBRAI Route!

RAGBRAIannounceDream Team Volunteers participated in the reveal of the 2014 RAGBRAI Route at Hy-Vee Hall in downtown Des Moines.

As part of the event, Dream Team volunteers also participated in the Iowa Bicycle Coalition Expo where they shared stories and information about Our Volunteers and Our Mission.1654022_649408245119306_671096475_n During the expo caring individuals and generous bike clubs donated over $1500.00 to the Dream Team.

As part of the Route Announcement Party there was a silent auction in which several items donated by volunteers and RAGBRAI were included to raise money for Dream Team. As part of the silent auction we were able to raise another $1500.00.

In total, the Bike Expo and silent auctions during the weekend raised over $3000.00! It was a great weekend and these contributions will sponsor 3 kids in the 2014 Dream Team.

YPC DreamTeam BoothThe goal of The 2013 Greater Des Moines Volunteerism Fair – sponsored by Bankers Trust – is to connect philanthropic-minded members of our community with 40+ nonprofit organizations who are actively seeking volunteers and support. By aligning these two groups in the same room, they hope to empower our community to do more in Des Moines!

Dream Team Featured on WHO TV

Last weekend 44 young people who are part of the 2013 Dream Team completed the final step in preparation for their goal to ride a bicycle across Iowa.  The team completed a near 200 mile ride in 3 days to the home of former RAGBRAI Director Jim Green, and his wonderful wife Judy. The ride had it all, trails, hills, head wind and lots of sun as they traveled from Des Moines, IA to Ellston, IA, and camped for two nights at Sun Valley Lake.

There was also plenty of time for team building and fun. The team spent many hours having fun in the water and on Saturday night the team played a fun game called ‘Bag of Good Feelings’.KF_IMG_2397 Each of the riders created inspirational messages of encouragement for their other team members and then placed those messages in a paper bag for that teammate. Later that night before each of the youngsters fell asleep in their tent, they read the messages and reflected on the long journey they started 5 months ago and the huge goal that is in front of them right now.

At the start of the ride the team was extremely happy to have along Sonya Heitshusen who rode with us and spent some time interviewing the riders and the mentors about this wonderful program. The video was featured as part of the WHO TV Weekly Workout segment and you can click here to see it. The team Thanks Sonya and her camera crew for taking the time to spend time and ride with us so we could share this inspirational story.
