Preparation for the 2018 Season Has Begun!

The new year is upon us which means we are “gearing” up for our 2018 season! Our Leadership Team has been making plans for our new season while our Rider Coordinators have been recruiting youth to fill up our 2018 roster. This is an exciting time as we prepare to welcome new youth and new adult mentors to the team! If you know of a student, ages 13-18 who is still in school, that you think may benefit from our team, please contact us for further details!

On Saturday, January 27th, the Dream Team will have a booth at the Iowa Bike Expo in Hy-Vee Hall where you are welcome to visit us and learn more about the mission of the Dream Team. We love to meet and chat with our supporters old and new, so stop by and say “hi!” That evening, the annual RAGBRAI Route Announcement Party will be held at the Iowa Events Center. You can order tickets online and all are welcome to attend as we unveil the 2018 RAGBRAI Route!

If you want to stay updated on the team as we head into our training season, “Like” us on Facebook to enjoy team photos and happenings as we work towards this summer’s big ride across Iowa! Thanks for supporting the Dream Team!

2017 Dream Team Season in Full “Gear”

We’re rockin’ the 2017 season and looking forward to a strong finish! We have over 20 youth training hard three days a week toward the goal of completing the week long bike ride across Iowa. We are seeing these young men and women grow exponentially, not just in their ability and confidence on the bike, but off the bike as well. And that’s what Dream Team is all about! Many challenges present themselves during our training rides. That can include flat tires, hills, head winds, extreme temperatures, rain, you name it. These youth are learning how to face challenges head-on and come out stronger on the other side.

This season has had some unique and very cool opportunities for the youth. One of the Saturday training rides in May took the youth to the Nike Factory Store at Jordan Creek. The youth all got to pick out a pair of brand new shoes compliments of Shoes That Fit, a national non-profit organization. A big “THANK YOU” to the local Shoes That Fit members who made this special day happen. The smiles on their faces and the pride with which they’ve been wearing their new shoes has been priceless!

More recently, the Des Moines chapter of 100+ Women Who Care voted to make a very generous donation to the Dream Team. As part of this donation, each youth has received a headlight, taillight, and speedometer for their bikes. Later in the season they will also receive new duffle bags for use on RAGBRAI. How incredible!

So the Dream Team really is in full “gear” this year! We’re having a lot of fun and we hope you will continue to follow our journey on social media. Say “hello” and offer a word of encouragement when you meet us out on a training ride!

Here are some photos from throughout the season. GO DREAM TEAM!

2016 a Huge Success and 2017 Planning Underway!

Wow, what a great year for the Dream Team in 2016! After over four months of training, 23 youth completed the entire 420 mile journey across Iowa from Glenwood to Muscatine. By completing this monumental adventure, each youth earned their bike to keep as their own. With a bike, helmet, clothing, and months of hands-on experience, these young men and women are equipped to continue the positive experience of cycling. But more importantly, they are equipped to set goals and work hard towards achieving them. We’re so proud of each and every one of them and the growth we saw in them throughout the year.

After completion of RAGBRAI, we all gathered together on the evening of August 5th to reminisce about the year, celebrate each others’ accomplishments, and wish the very best to those graduating.  Here is a photo from the 2016 Dream Team banquet:

And now, we look forward to the 2017 year! Here you see our leadership group already planning and preparing for another incredible season:

Wow, what a great year for the Dream Team in 2015! After over four months of training, 39 (yes 39!) youth completed the entire 462 mile journey across Iowa from Sioux City to Davenport. By completing this monumental adventure, each youth earned their bike to keep as their own.
